The vaguely green-fingered thoughts of a rambling rose.

Acer palmatum

Japanese maple

This particular acer was in our garden when we moved in but it was unhealthy and encroaching the steps down to the house so we had it cut down.  Amazingly it sprouted new shoots and given its tenacity, we gave it a stay of execution.  I'm pleased we did as with some shapely pruning, it is becoming a stunning specimen.  In spring purple leaves unfurl along with tiny flowers in a similar shade, and remain so until the autumn when they turn a beautiful deep red.
This acer grows at the top of the drive in the front garden.

Informative prune in the winter.

Full sun to part shade in a sheltered position to help prevent wind scorch.
Acid-neutral soil.
Slow growing but ultimate height unclear as we do not know the variety.
