The vaguely green-fingered thoughts of a rambling rose.

Acer palmatum

Japanese maple

This knee high acer (? Dissectum 'Garnet') was given to us by TMTC's cousin when he moved into his first home but didn't want any of the plants. We potted it up into a better container and it seems very happy in the Yen Garden.  In September 2019 we planted the tree into the ground in the Yen.

This kind of acer holds its bold colour from unfurling its leaves until the autumn when they turn bright scarlet.

Does well in dappled shade.
Prefers acidic soil but will tolerate some lime.

12 x 8ft in 10 years.
