No, not the infamous 17th century tulipmania of the Netherlands, however most of our tulips do indeed come from our Dutch friends.
The first to bloom are the reds and yellows in pots on the terrace, along with a blousy white in the terrace border. The mini heatwave forced these to go over a little too quickly in mid April.
Next to come into flower are the rich colours in the front garden, including Purple Prince, along with a streaked variety that we acquired with a pot of violets from a family member a couple of years ago.
The tall white tulips in the patio borders are stunning and have lasted some time due to cooler weather. They are now joined by the pink tinged smaller variety and sugary pink versions.
The idea is to add to these displays in the autumn with larger swathes in the front garden to give a better impact. Most of the tulips are bold colours there, and I will continue that theme, whereas the tulips in the back borders are more subtle, pastels.
